Reflections on ‘Life without papers’ by Len Grant

In 2013, Paul Hamlyn Foundation commissioned writer and photographer Len Grant to tell the stories of people living with undocumented status in the UK. The blog, Life without papers, ran for 12 months and told the stories of lives of three people, and their children, in Manchester. The blog won ‘Best Writing’ in the Blog North Awards 2013, where judges commented: “Crisp, controlled writing with a sense of immediacy and urgency that brings these important stories to a wider audience.” It was shortlisted in the Amnesty International Media Awards and won the Speaking Together media award in 2013.

An update in November 2014, revisits the blog’s subjects to see how life had progressed for them…
